Hala Taha – a trailblazer to watch

I figured she’s a synthetic human, with an AI-synthesized voice. It must be some advanced social experiment I won’t like, I could bet. Oh, was I wrong!

Every now and then, an impresario, a producer, or a famous label, enlists a gifted junior to be the next big thing. Those polished newbie faces smile at us from magazine covers worldwide. Until their luck runs out.

In the same vein, I started noticing on LinkedIn a pretty young girl with over-sized eyelashes. She was being pitched as the hottest newcomer in the live voice arena.

The “Podcast Princess” Hala Taha is sooooo fake, I thought. The name, the look, the hair – the whole package – it’s just too perfect to be true.

And by fake, I didn’t mean that someone tells her what to say about world peace and cooperation. With those large, “beautified” eyes, she must be the latest computer-generated model.

I figured she’s a synthetic human, with an AI-synthesized voice. It must be some advanced social experiment I won’t like, I could bet. Oh, was I wrong!

Out of mild curiosity, I watched her appearance at an MIT event, broadcast live on LinkedIn in August. Ten minutes into it, I was hooked. An hour later, I was in awe.

That young lady – of flesh and blood alright – tells her struggle-to-stardom story with rare candor and wisdom. Her resilience is addictive.

Even if you are not into podcasting or radio, give her keynote an ear. You might learn a lot about talent. Do let me know what you think.
